Pregnant women in prison

Pregnant women in prison

The Amazon team is working with Birth Companions – a charity supporting pregnant women and new mothers in prison – to launch new guidance for Government and the Prison Service in dealing with this vulnerable group.

Around 600 pregnant women are held in prisons in England and Wales each year, and some 100 babies are born to women prisoners, yet despite legislation protecting their health and well-being, many do not get the care and support they’re entitled to.

We’ll be providing strategic support and media relations to highlight the issues and launch the guidance to professional and mainstream audiences across the coming months.
