Forces in Mind Trust (FiMT) was established in 2011 by a £35 million endowment from the Big Lottery Fund (now The National Lottery Community Fund). FiMT’s vision is for all ex-Service personnel and their families to lead fulfilled civilian lives, and its mission is to enable successful sustainable transition by identifying the barriers to successful transition, finding out what works to address these barriers and then using this evidence to bring about change that has a sustainable positive impact on ex-Service people and their families.

Since 2018, we have delivered strategic communications and public relations support for FiMT, strengthening the organisation’s voice and influence through the media. We have given the charity a platform to be a thought leader on issues affecting veterans in the different sectors it works in including health, housing and employment.

To provide FiMT with a full package of support, we brought in our public affairs partners at BDB Pitmans, who work to increase the charity’s influence amongst its key stakeholders and to establish relationships with Ministers, MPs, policy makers and senior government officials across political parties.

Together, we work closely with the in-house team to develop campaigns, feed in to influence plans and handle media relations. We have secured significant national, broadcast and sector coverage since working together.

Lifting Our Sights Beyond 2030: Lifting Our Sights was a seminal piece of work, looking ahead and analysing the future trends which will affect Service leavers in the year 2030. We worked with the in-house team to build a media package and achieved 28 pieces of coverage including Sky News, Times Radio, ITV News and others with an opportunity to see of over 14 million.
